From Service to Spiritual Purpose: How God Called Me to Create and Encourage Others Through Faith

After serving my country as a U.S. veteran, I found myself in a different kind of battle—a spiritual one. I was searching for purpose, healing, and direction. But it was through the quiet, creative work of writing, designing, and prayer that God revealed a new mission for my life.
A Journey of Transition
Military service shaped me, but leaving that world behind left an unexpected void. Like many veterans, I struggled to find clarity in the next chapter. Yet in the stillness, I turned to God. I began journaling, reflecting on scripture, and creating things that made me feel grounded again—designs, devotionals, and messages rooted in truth and hope.
God’s Gentle Nudging
It was during this quiet season that I felt God calling me to use my creativity not just for myself, but to encourage others. I didn’t have all the answers, but I knew I could offer faith-filled reminders that someone else might need—reminders of who they are in Christ, of His faithfulness, and of the hope we have in Him.
Honoring a Companion
My shop is named PootsyJ, inspired by my dog Pootsy—my steady companion who brought me peace during difficult times. He reminded me daily of God's gentle, unconditional love. The 'J' stands for Johnson—our shared last name. Together, we inspired something that goes far beyond just products: a mission of healing, testimony, and faith.
Living with Purpose
Today, I share encouragement through my creative work and a growing YouTube channel where I post videos filled with scripture and inspiration. My prayer is that these efforts bless others who, like me, are navigating uncertainty while trusting God. It’s not about perfection—it’s about persistence in the direction of purpose.
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." – Matthew 6:33
Takeaway
God often calls us in quiet places. Sometimes He uses the smallest moments, a journal, a prayer, or even a pet—to speak peace and purpose into our lives. If you’re in a waiting season, trust that He hasn’t forgotten you. Your purpose may just be waiting to bloom.
