“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in faith, just as you were taught, abound in thanksgiving.” (Colossians 2: 6-7)
“So walk in Him” is a phrase that is often misinterpreted. Sometimes, people imagine that accepting Jesus is the end of the story. Perhaps they come forward at an altar call and say a prayer, placing their faith in the Lord’s death for their sins and inviting Him into their hearts.
This of course is a wonderful beginning. It is a wonderful and absolutely critical start, but it is not the end of the story. It is only the first step in a whole new way of life.
When walking in Him, our purpose and destiny with God requires a life of surrender, obedience, and service. It’s a daily commitment to let go of our own plans and follow God’s guidance. It’s a journey of trusting His voice and stepping out in faith, even when the path is unclear.
How do we walk with Him? – By repentance and faith. It requires an ongoing moment-by-moment reliance on Jesus himself. We need to be rooted and built up in Him. We need to depend on Jesus throughout our day, continually seeking to draw strength from him.
Dependence on Jesus occurs through faith. Faith strengthens our walk with Christ.
May God help us truly to go through life rooted, built up, established in the faith and abounding thanksgiving. May we realize that accepting Jesus is not the end of the story, It is just the beginning of the wonderful, new Christ-like life.
So, let’s go walk in Him, taking His love, living a life of surrender, obedience, and service. Keep your focus on Jesus. Stay close to Him. Keep adoring Him, make your life a relentless pursuit of Him. Do this, and everything else will fall in place.
