Editor's Note: Jim Putnam has become an invaluable member of our outreach ministry to veterans and suicide survivors. Each week, Jim and his faithful companion Julie visit River Hills Health and Rehabilitation, bringing hope and encouragement to those who need it most. Having walked through his own valley of loss after his wife's battle with cancer three years ago, Jim offers this personal testimony of finding renewed hope in God's Word.
Hope in God's word is a central theme in Christianity, offering solace and assurance during times of difficulty and a foundation for future blessings.
Finding hope in God's Word means anchoring one's hope in God's promises, His character, and his faithfulness. It's about recognizing that God is the source of true joy, peace, and strength, even in the face of difficult circumstances. This involves spending time in Scripture, claiming God's promises, and trusting in His unfailing love, even when things seem hopeless.
"But those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not get weak." Isaiah 40:31
We all have life stories to tell from the very highest emotions of love and joy to the lowest levels of sadness and illnesses, with times that we did not think we could make it through the day. Most of us in those times probably called ourselves Christians and regularly attended religious services and activities. While we often think that all is good as we live our daily lives and try to figure out how to navigate our life's journey, we need to turn to scriptural guidance that says trust in the Lord for He has a plan for you.
"Commit to the Lord whatever you do and he will establish your plans." Proverbs 16:3
Trusting in God's wisdom and power to guide and direct your actions. It is about seeking His will and guidance before making decisions.
Hope in God's Word in Practice
While we may have put a great deal of our life plan in hoping for good things to happen, it is time to believe that God's plan has always been with you. I am finally trusting in the Lord and know that people and events that come my way are meant to be and they are part of my spiritual growth. Take the old hope we have used over the years and embrace the hope in God's word. It will help you find peace and joy in your life and in your personal and life relationships.
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13
